Europe Day 2026 in Abuja
The European Union Delegation to Nigeria and to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) celebrated Europe Day 2026 with a colourful reception at Abuja's Continental Hotel on Friday, 8 May.
Ambassador Gautier Mignot, who was accompanied to the stage to welcome the guests by his wife and colleagues from the 19 EU Member States with diplomatic presence in the Nigerian capital, underlined the team spirit that drives the EU project. "The presence of my Member States colleagues here with us on stage is a reminder that our Union draws its strength from the dynamism and diversity of its 27 Member States: we are strong because we are a united team, Team Europe," he said.
Also joining on the stage was the Ambassador of Ukraine, Mr Ivan Kholostenko.
The Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu and his wife, Governor of Taraba State, Mr Agbu Kefas, as well as the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of State in the Ministry, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Livestock Development, Mr. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, were among top government officials at the event. Members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, youths and partner organisations and the general public graced the occasion.
