Winners of the Essay Competition on Gender Equality unveiled in Abuja - 28 November 2017

The essay competition was organised by the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS in collaboration with the Teen Trust Publication (owners of Daily Trust Newspaper) and the Federal Ministry of Education. The Essay Competition was open to students between 13 – 16 years from Nigerian Secondary Schools.Over five hundred essay entries were received.

After careful review and selection by the judges, winners of the Essay Competition on Gender Equality were announced today at a Prize Giving Ceremony held in Abuja.

Glory Nale Barinem aged 14, from Graceland International School, Port Harcourt, won the first prize of a Laptop and cash prize of N30, 000, while Olajumoke Jude, 13, from D-Ivy College, Ogun State, won the second prize of a Laptop and N20, 000. The third prize went to 16 year old Daniella Ndubuisi-Ike from Loyola Jesuit, Abuja, who also received a Laptop and a cash prize of N10, 000.

In his Keynote address, the Head of Delegation of the European Union in Nigeria, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, noted that ensuring gender equality is at the front burner of the EU External Action Policies and asked everyone to make a conscious effort in their various spheres of influence to ensure gender parity for all.

Hon. Ukeje-Elendu, Chairman House Committee on Foreign Affairs also made a passionate plea for all nations to include voices of women & youth.

The best 10 runners –up received a grant of N30,000 each for books.
