On March 25, the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay offered an open webinar with the title "The Ecological Transition in the post-COVID-19 era". The online conference addressed issues related to the green economy, the European Green Deal and the potential synergies between the European Union (EU) and Latin America.
The webinar was very well attended. Tomas Pospisil, Deputy Head of Mission of the EU Delegation to Uruguay, opened the event and presented the Delegation's perspective on the subject.
The keynote speaker was Lara Lázaro, an expert on energy and climate change from the College of Europe, who holds a Doctorate and a Master degree in Environmental Assessment and Evaluation from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a degree in Economics from the Autonomous University from Madrid.
Dr. Lázaro spoke of climate change as a global challenge and the need to support multilateralism, the European Green Deal and the ecological transition on that continent, the European Climate Law, the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, the green recovery through Next Generation EU, how to continue guiding and supporting concerted action from a multilateral perspective, and the technical bridges of the EU to forge strategic alliances with Latin America.
It should be noted that the EU is a world leader in the fields of climate change and energy transition.
