Good afternoon, buenos días,
Allow me to say something about something that is not on the agenda of the European Union Council today. This morning we have had a seminar with the Ministers of Defence to continue discussing about the Strategic Compass that will be on the agenda of the next Defence Ministers [meeting].
It has been an intense discussion about how to finish the building of this Strategic Compass in order for the European Union to act more and better as a security provider. To use all our forces, to spend better on defence and being a stronger partner. This has been a very interesting discussion that paves the way for the next European Union Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministers [meeting].
Today, we have a big geopolitical issue, which is energy prices, with important social consequences. Energy prices today are the consequence of a big geopolitical game, with a strong external dimension. We will talk about it and I will present the results of my travel to the Gulf and to Washington.
Another issue in which the external dimension is very important is migration. We are seeing how migration is being weaponised, how migrants are being used as weapons to push them against the borders of Poland and the Baltic countries. We have to hold the Belarusian government accountable for these actions, but also to have a look at the airlines and travel operators who are cooperating with this way of using human beings as arms, pushing [them] against the border, creating situations in which there is an extraordinary violation of human rights.
Q: What do you think of Russia saying that it is not going to participate in the diplomatic missions with NATO?
I do not know why Russia decided that. Ask them.
