17 August 2021, BANGKOKThe European Union, together with WHO Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health recently donated COVID-protective equipment to the Maesot General Hospital in Tak Province.

The handover of N95 (5,000 pieces) and surgical masks (20,000 pieces) is the second of several planned allotments to be procured for Maesot General Hospital frontline healthcare workers. The first shipment of face shields (4,000 pieces) and N95 (5,000 pieces) was delivered to the hospital on 29 July 2021.  The state-run health facility deals with hundreds of Thai and migrant labourers infected with COVID-19 on a daily basis in Mae Sot district. Furthermore, the hospital has to take care of COVID-19 patients referred from other hospitals located at districts bordering with Myanmar in Tak province. Therefore, the European Union, through WHO Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health, has committed to THB 3.3 million worth of protective equipment ranging from face shields, PPE suits, and disposable gloves, to pulse oximeters and portable blood pressure monitors to be distributed to the hospital by October 2021.
