On July 16, as part of the on-going International Conference "Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities" President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Vice President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
They discussed topical issues of Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation.
Josep Borrell conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, Head of the European Commission, to the head of our state. He streesed the significance and timeliness of Uzbek leader's global initiative to promote interconnectedness in Central and South Asia.
During the meeting, the dynamic development of partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU observed in recent years has been noted with satisfaction.
The sides emphasized the importance of further expanding the multidimensional cooperation, first and foremost in the human dimension and democratic reforms, in promoting business, investment and innovation, "green development", environmental protection, cultural exchange and other areas.
It has been noted that negotiations on a new agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union are coming to an end. The two sides exchanged detailed views on the international agenda. Particular attention is paid to facilitating a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan.
