On 21 September, First Secretary Per Sjönell gave opening remarks on behalf of the EU at the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) Universalisation Workshop for the Pacific. The workshop gathered Ministers, MPs and senior civil servants from Pacific Islands as well as NZ MPs and representatives from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the depositories of the Convention (UK, USA and Russia). The EU funds activities to support the universalisation and full implementation of the convention with a  €3M budget that spans over three years.

The workshop was held in NZ's famous Parliament building 'The Beehive' and also gathered representatives from CSOs.
