Mural on EU Delegation to Nepal wall gives messages on peace, equality and diversity

The mural is a visual representation of European Union’s efforts to promote a culture of tolerance, peace and diversity, as well as mutual understanding worldwide.

Eight street artists from Europe and Nepal and their eight assistants completed the mural in one week, in November 2022.

The painting of the 64-meter outside wall of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal is a co-creation and a reflection of different realities, history, society and art of both cultures.

The themes represented on the mural tell stories of peace, equality, diversity, women empowerment, justice, climate action, and sustainable development.

The mural’s colour palette is intentionally bright with subtle hues of yellow and blue running throughout the images and echoing the colours of the EU flag. The iconographic style resonates with a Nepali audience.

The accessibility of this mural in a public space means it can be enjoyed by anyone walking past the EU Delegation.

The EU “Artists in Residence” project brought together four European and four Nepali urban artists in a safe environment in Kathmandu.  During the five-week residency, the artists also conducted 8 workshops open to the public and their work was exhibited during a contemporary art event.”

Through creative exchanges and mutual learning, the participating artists – Sozo, Isakov, Michelle, Krashkid, Kashink, Ju Mu, Sadhu-X, Mimi – inspired each other’s work and built strong intercultural bonds.

The project was realised  in partnership with Cultural Relations Platform and local artist group Kaalo.101.
