This year, the EU Delegation to Nepal will organise several events around Europe Day and the entire week, beginning 8 May, is labelled as “Nepal-Europe Week”.

As we also celebrate the 75^th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the overall theme will be Multilateralism and the three pillars of the United Nations (Human rights, Peace & Security and Development) with a focus on trade and business as a driver of sustainable development.

A reception is to be organised on the 9^th May for government officials, the Diplomatic corps, UN agencies, project partners, civil society organisations and the media. Vice President of Nepal, Honorable Ram Sahaya Yadav will be chief guest at the reception.

Winners of the ‘EU Green Award’ will also be announced during the main reception followed by the displaying of the mural, a joint cultural and artistic activity carried out by European and Nepali artists some months ago.

A “Business Forum” will be organised on 8 and 9 May, as well as a “Business & Human Rights” roundtable, which will coincide with the launch of Nepal “Business & Human Rights National Action Plan”, and a lecture will be delivered by EU Ambassador Deprez, at Kathmandu School of Law on the “Decent Work Agenda”, on 12 May. 

The main objective of “Nepal-Europe Week” is to disseminate information on the efforts of the European Union worldwide to support a rules-based international order and the three pillars of the United Nations (Human rights, Peace & Security and Development).

The other objective is to inform the wider public about what the European Union does to assist Nepal in achieving a green, resilient and inclusive development, through the promotion of business and trade, as well as the role of TEAM EUROPE in assisting Nepal to achieve its target of graduating from LDC status by 2026.
