The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Nepal celebrated Europe Day 2026 on 8 May at Patan Durbar Square, with the Right Honourable Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahaya Yadav, as the Chief Guest.

In her remarks, EU Ambassador to Nepal, Her Excellency Veronique Lorenzo, emphasised the importance of global partnerships in addressing shared challenges:

EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo speaking at the event.

“No country can tackle global issues alone. The EU is committed to strengthening fair and resilient partnerships—including with Nepal—to confront pressing challenges like climate change, digital transformation, and growing threats to democracy and human rights. Together, we must uphold the rules-based international order that we have collectively built over the years.”

The Ambassador also congratulated Nepal on its peaceful elections in March and the smooth government transition, commending the Nepali people’s commitment to democratic values and the rule of law.

The event was attended by ambassadors from EU Member States, including France, Germany, and Finland, alongside representatives from Nepal’s government, civil society, the private sector, and the diplomatic community.

As one of Nepal’s longest-standing and most reliable partners, the EU supports the country’s development through inclusive economic growth, democratic governance, education, and sustainability initiatives. With substantial financial cooperation and long-term partnerships, the EU continues to play a key role in Nepal’s social and economic progress.

Europe Day marks the 76th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the foundational moment that paved the way for the European Union as we know it today. The occasion also serves as an annual opportunity for the EU Delegation to Nepal to reinforce ties with national and international partners, the diplomatic community, and friends of the EU, celebrating the enduring bond between Europe and Nepal.
