Press releases

The project Fier – Vlora gas pipeline “Detailed Design and Tender documents” funded by EU (grant in an amount of 1,100,000 Euro, which was approved on December 2018, by WBIF Steering Committee) was launched, via conference call, on 23rd June 2020 in Tirana. This project will contribute to the long-term development of the Albania’s gas system. Expected results of this Project are to construct the gas system branch supplying consumers in Vlora, Fier, Ballsh, Tepelenë and Gjirokastër, increase the security of energy supply and diversify energy sources in Albania, according to Gas Development Master Plan for Albania. It will enable the fuel switching to natural gas of the Vlora TPP. The Albanian electricity system would largely benefit from the addition of a generation capacity that would be available on demand, to supplement the hydro production.

The project will develop the detailed design documentation and tender documents required for permitting and construction of the Fier – Vlora gas pipeline, and its expected duration is 15 months.

Main outputs of this sub-project are:

  • Review and confirmation of  the pipeline route identified in the Feasibility Study

  • Technical documentation necessary to obtain the construction permit  of the gas pipeline

  • Detailed Design documentation for construction of the gas pipeline

  • Procurement Plan and Tender Documents

  • Project Implementation Plan
