Technical Support to the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme
The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGH2P) will be supported to facilitate the development of the green hydrogen sector and related downstream industries and green transport corridors. The key approach embraced by the NGH2P is to engage various de-risking strategies to facilitate private sector participation in green hydrogen production, green industrialisation and green corridor development. The selection of activities for funding under this EU Grant is inspired by the 2022 Namibia Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy, the 2024 Blueprint for Green Industrialisation in Namibia, and the 2023 EU-Namibia Roadmap for Sustainable Raw Materials Value Chains and Renewable Hydrogen. The NGH2P has prioritised certain actions and these are reflected in its Green Hydrogen Council (GHC) approved 2024-2026 Strategic Work Plan and Budget. The activities proposed for funding under the EU Grant are largely aligned to this work plan and budget. Similarly, the Financing Agreement “Accelerating Energy Transition in Namibia (ACT-61929) as conclude between the EU and the National Planning Commission, provides guidance.
Cross cutting actions will contribute to:
1) improved access to baseline data to track and determine the impact of green industrialisation on the livelihoods of people living in the Southern Valley.
2) Enhanced support base for the green hydrogen as a driver of economic development in a sustainable and responsible manner, through environmental, health and safety risk management.
