Good Governance Programme

05.08.2025

The project focuses on strengthening good governance and advancing gender equality in Namibia by supporting anti-corruption measures and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention efforts. The action aligns with Namibia’s national development priorities and seeks to reinforce institutional capacity to implement existing policies effectively.

The governance component aims to enhance the capacity of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other oversight bodies, ensuring better implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan (NACSAP). Meanwhile, the gender equality component focuses on improving service provision for GBV survivors, strengthening community networks, and ensuring effective implementation of the GBV Action Plan.

Implementation is structured under indirect management with UNDP for the governance component and UNFPA for the gender equality component. Both organizations will provide technical assistance and financial support for relevant government institutions and civil society actors.

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and improve cooperation between the ACC and other government institutions in implementing the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan (NACSAP). The project expects to further gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) by strengthening the leadership role of the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) in overseeing and coordinating gender policies. The improvement of service provision for GBV survivors, strengthening of community networks for GBV response and increased engagement of civil society on GBV-related advocacy are all expected outcomes of this project.

The project directly contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) while reinforcing Namibia’s broader governance and human rights agenda.
