Accelerating Namibia’s Energy Transition – EU-GET.transform Country Window Namibia
The project supports Namibia’s energy transition by enhancing sector governance, regulatory frameworks, and planning for an energy system transformation that reduces reliance on fossil fuels and imports.
The project is part of the Team Europe Initiative on Inclusive Green Growth – Namibia, contributing to the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative. It operates within the GET.pro (Global Energy Transformation Programme) framework and focuses on providing technical assistance to the public sector to drive power sector transformation, renewable energy integration, and improved regulation for electricity access.
Expected outcomes of the project include strengthening Namibia’s national energy planning processes to integrate renewable energy and improve regulatory frameworks. The project aims to develop technical planning tools and procedures to integrate solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources into the national grid. Furthermore, regulations and policies will be enhanced to facilitate private sector investment in the energy market, including Independent Power Producer (IPP) participation. The project expects to improve policies and technical standards for off-grid and mini-grid solutions to expand electricity access, particularly in rural areas. Finally, the project aims to boost capacity building and institutional support to ensure a sustainable energy transition by providing technical expertise and leadership training to Namibian institutions.
