The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to peace and security in Southern Africa by supporting the SADC Secretariat to implement its programmes in the areas of:
Development of democratic institutions and practices.
Prevent, contain and resolve inter-and intra-state conflict by peaceful means, including preventive diplomacy, negotiations, conciliation, mediation, good offices and arbitration.
Enhance regional capacity in respect of disaster management and co-ordination of international humanitarian assistance.
Address cross border crime, in particular the trafficking of persons, especially women and children.
