The EU Delegation in collaboration with UNESCO celebrated the sixth annual World Radio Day under the theme: 'Radio is You'.  It was widely acknowledged that radio continues to be a preferred mass media platform in order to engage with audiences.  Participants stressed the importance of including the youth and creating greater awareness on the importance of radio for decision makers in terms of providing access to information to communities and the public at large.  In Namibia, radio is a key platform to engage with the population and can also be viewed as a "school" on topics such as politics, improved farming techniques, climate change, gender based violence, rights of citizens and so much more.  As part of the activities, a Panel Discussion took place and the objective was to have an interactive panel discussion about the significance of Audiences – Knowing your audience and their needs, segmentation of audiences and use of audiences for radio production.  Pupils from various schools actively participated and competed against each other in debates on whether radio is outdated or not.  The EU provided funding and logistical support to this event.
