A first batch of 10,000 COVID-19 test kits, personal protective equipment, thermometers and disinfectant liquids reached Yangon on 10 May 2020 through an air bridge between Yangon and Kuala Lumpur, co-financed by the European Union and Switzerland.

As commercial flights remain suspended all over the world to help contain the spread of COVID-19, the European Union (EU) and Switzerland are funding a series of flights to ensure essential medical and humanitarian supplies reach Myanmar. The first batch of test kits, procured by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), are handed over to the Ministry of Health and Sports to boost the testing capacity of the National Health Laboratory and help meet the increasing testing needs. The flights are managed by the World Food Programme and will transport lifesaving medical equipment on a weekly basis - until regular air transport resumes.
