Statement by the Spokesperson on the presidential elections in Mauritania

Text

The first round of the presidential elections was held in Mauritania on 22 June. The European Union commends the high turnout for the vote, which took place in an atmosphere of calm and in generally satisfactory conditions.

While the final results have yet to be announced, the European Union is concerned by the statements made by certain candidates and calls on all concerned to display calm and restraint, addressing any disagreement through legal channels.
