Ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty by Swaziland and Myanmar
The ratifications of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) by Swaziland and Myanmar are welcome steps towards the universalisation of the Treaty. Both countries deposited their instruments of ratification in New York on 21 September 2016 thus bringing the total number of ratifications to 166. All 28 European Union Member States have ratified the CTBT, and remain strongly committed to its entry into force and universalisation. High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini called on 21 September at the Eighth Ministerial Meeting in support of the CTBT in New York on all states that have not done so to sign and ratify the treaty.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 2310 (2016) on the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, adopted today, is an important step in this direction.
