Building Resilience through Social Transfers for Nutrition Security in The Gambia - Fanta Fatajo
Text
The project targets lactating women with children under 2 years, giving monthly cash transfer of GMB600 (approx. €13) per mother-child pair. The cash is to build resilience by making additional money available for the household to diversify their food consumption, improve feeding patterns, thereby making more nutrients available in their meals. Mothers also benefit from education support from health service providers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices during child welfare clinic days. Also, mothers whose children were malnourished at the point of inclusion into the project are visited by social workers at home to provide IYCF support and counselling.
