Common Security and Defence Policy: EU and Norway hold first dialogue on security and defence

On 25 March 2021, the European Union and Norway held their first structured dialogue on security and defence.

The launching of this dialogue builds on the close and long-standing cooperation and partnership between the EU and Norway in the field of security and defence.

The exchange of views covered a number of issues, including EU defence initiatives, Norway’s involvement in EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and operations, EU-NATO cooperation and the transatlantic partnership, as well issues related to the security in the High North.

The EU and Norway agreed to holding the meetings of the structured dialogue on an annual basis.

The meeting was co-chaired by Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary General for Common Security and Defence Policy and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service, as well as Audun Halvorsen, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and Tone Skogen, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Norway.
