Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro
On 9 February the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, and Montenegrin PM Dusko Markovic visited a railway reconstruction project in Podgorica.
Vulnerable young people need careful attention, and in Montenegro the EU has been helping to prevent separation of children and families, and supporting community-based care and the provision of better homes.
Local governments have a major role to play in promoting social and economic development, particularly in the enlargement countries. But they are not always familiar with how they can make the best use of EU funds in carrying out their tasks. That is why the EU has been helping municipalities in Montenegro to switch to new operating methods in tune with EU approaches.
From the sixties to the eighties, thousands of radioactive lightning rods (lightning conductors) were installed in the former Yugoslavia. This was under the mistaken assumption that the higher energy of gamma emitters would make the rods work better.
