Visiting EU mission continues engagement with Cambodia

Officials from the European Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) visited Cambodia on 19 and 20 March 2019 as part of the continued political dialogue and engagement with the Government of Cambodia.

This was the first opportunity for dialogue during the monitoring and evaluation period, which commenced with the launch of the process that could lead to a possible temporary withdrawal of tariff preferences granted to Cambodia under the EU’s Everything But Arms (EBA) trade scheme.

EU officials held open and frank discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prak Sokhonn, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sar Kheng and the Minister of Commerce, Pan Sorasak as well as with civil society, United Nations and International Labour Organisation representatives in the country.

The European Commission and the EEAS hope to see sustained and concrete progress in all areas of concern under the EBA engagement and look to Cambodia to urgently take the actions needed in order to keep benefiting from the EBA preferential tariffs.
