Marking three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: Honoring Resilience, Courage, and Solidarity

On 28 February, the National Museum of History of Moldova hosted the inauguration of the photography exhibition "Phenomenon of Strength," an event organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with the National Museum of History of Moldova and the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova.

Curated by the Office of the Ukrainian Ombudsman, the exhibition sheds light on the deeply moving stories of children who have been returned home from deportation, as well as civilians and prisoners of war who were held captive by the Russian Federation.

The event marked three years since the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia and gathered high-ranking officials, diplomatic representatives, members of the Ukrainian community in Moldova, journalists, and students. Among the distinguished guests was the Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova, Paun Rohova, who emphasized the importance of remembering these tragic yet powerful stories.

In his address, the European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, emphasized the strength of human resilience in the face of oppression and that the exhibition “is a testament to the unyielding spirit of the Ukrainian people. For three years, they have faced unimaginable hardship, yet their courage and determination have never wavered. The European Union stands with Ukraine, because this is not just their fight—it is a fight for freedom, justice, and the values we all share."

The leader of the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova, Dmitri Lekartev, highlighted the solidarity shown by Moldovans during these difficult times: "We have demonstrated unprecedented solidarity, opening our hearts and homes to those seeking refuge, showing the world that humanity knows no borders. This support has not gone unnoticed—in October last year, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova were awarded the prestigious Nansen Refugee Award by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The world has seen that our small country has a big heart, full of kindness and compassion. As the war enters its third year, Ukrainians continue to feel our support, which gives them the strength to move forward."

As a symbol of unwavering support for Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag is prominently displayed at the EU Delegation to Moldova, reaffirming the European Union’s commitment to standing with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and justice.
