From 23 September to 6 October, the European Union (EU) together with its Member States celebrate Climate Diplomacy Week in Indonesia and around the world.

From 23 September to 6 October, the European Union (EU) together with its Member States celebrate Climate Diplomacy Week in Indonesia and around the world.

The objective of these Climate Diplomacy weeks is to highlight the inspiring role youth take in climate actions, while raising awareness about actors and projects. Next to the participation of our Member States, those weeks are further inspired by Indonesian civil society and private sector. These include talks by celebrities involved in the climate action, grassroots initiatives, workshops and dialogues.   

The aim is to nurture new partnerships for a sustainable, climate-friendly future.

The European Union is committed to deliver on the UN SDGs, while acknowledging the necessity of working in partnership with all relevant stakeholders. As the voice of youth becomes increasingly present in shaping our world’s future, this workshop will be attended by the "children of palm oil farmers", youth leaders and activists committed to a sustainable future for palm oil. The workshop aims at illustrating their aspirations while taking into account their present needs, emerging challenges, future outlooks and ideas on palm oil contribution to sustainable development in the context of EU-Indonesia relations, global efforts towards poverty alleviation, preserving biodiversity, and reaching carbon neutrality in the second half of this century.

From the landmark COP21 conference in Paris to Macron’s vocal campaign to “Make Our Planet Great Again” in 2017, France has expressed to the world its commitment to play a leadership position in climate diplomacy.

 

But what has been the outcomes of this policy so far? What concrete measures and schemes have been implemented by the French government to meet its carbon-neutral target by 2050? How does France accompany emerging countries today, towards low-emission pathways? And what tools have been developed to engage youth worldwide in the climate change conversation?

 

During this roundtable, three French experts will address those questions, providing their views from different fields of actions.

Partners of the Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 will then reflect on the last two weeks of activities and outline future opportunities for climate actions. In addition, "Rain Band" will perform a song created specifically for the closing of the Climate Diplomacy Week 2019. The event will conclude with "Qu'est-ce qu'on attend?" (What are we waiting for?) - a French film with English subtitles.
