On 9 May, Europe Day was celebrated by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea at the Seoul campus of Korea University in commemoration of the foundation of the European Union and 30 years of Jean Monnet activities.

9 May is celebrated annually as Europe Day, which marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration that was proposed by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950 and became the foundation for the establishment of the European Union. The Schuman Declaration created the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) with founding members France, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

In line with the 30 Years of Jean Monnet Activities, Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and the KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre co-organised seminars under the theme of "Bringing Jean Monnet Back: Past, Present and Future" at Korea University.

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is a focal point of competence and knowledge on the European Union subjects. It brings together high-level experts to create links between the various disciplines and resources in European studies and to form links with academic institutions in other countries.

Jean Monnet Professors from Korea University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Pusan National University made presentations on topics such as "Jean Monnet and the Idea of Connectivity", "Brexit in the Eyes of Jean Monnet," "The Role of the EU in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia," and "Jean Monnet Centres and European Studies in Korea."

Followed by the seminar, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea Michael Reiterer awarded the 'Europe Day Student UCC Contest' which was open to 5 Jean Monnet EU centres students at Korea University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Pusan National University.

The Europe Day Reception was held in the evening at Sudang Samyang Faculty House at Korea. EU Ambassador to Korea Michael Reiterer, Minister of Culture Park Yang-woo and Jean Monnet EU Centre professors delivered congratulatory remarks at the reception.  Peroni Italy, Grolsch, Pilsner Urquell and Kozel officially sponsored the Europe Day reception.
