Screening of INTERCEPTED at the Institut français de Maurice to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine

24 February 2025 marked the somber third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. EU institutions and delegations around the world organised a number of events to show their support to Ukraine.

In Mauritius, the EU Ambassador and the Ambassador of France welcomed several members of the Ukrainian Association in Mauritius, members of the diplomatic corps including the US Ambassador as well as the media, for the screening of the documentary INTERCEPTED at the Institut français de Maurice.

After the screening of the 93-minute documentary that deeply moved the audience, Anastasiia Taranenko, Secretary of Ukrainian Association in Mauritius wrote :

-          “The screening of Oksana Karpovych’s documentary Intercepted, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Mauritius with the presence of the Ukrainian community of Mauritius and distinguished guests, was not just a sign of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian community internationally but also an important space for reflecting on the realities of this brutal, unprovoked Russian aggression against one of Europe’s oldest nations. This film presents a painful yet necessary truth, allowing us to hear the voices of those who wage war—ordinary Russian soldiers who represent the general population of Russia beyond its government. In the documentary, we see de-occupied Ukrainian cities and villages, revealing the devastated realities of destroyed lives—something all Ukrainians present at the screening could deeply resonate with, as these are our own stories, the stories of our families. As a Ukrainian whose family has personally experienced Russian occupation and the loss of home, it was profoundly important for me to be present at this screening—to witness, alongside others, that this film accurately represents the reality faced by millions of Ukrainians today. And yet, too many have endured even harsher experiences, and so many are still living under Russian occupation. Watching this documentary serves as a stark reminder to the world of the price of freedom and the depth and danger of the 'Russian world' ideology. “
