The EU Delegation to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles has a number of important objectives. These include:
- Ensure the representation of the European Union to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles;
- Ensure the conduct of the relations with the Indian Ocean Commission;
- Ensure the tasks of the European Union Presidency in Mauritius;
- Promote and defend the values and interests of the European Union;
- Ensure the follow-up of EU policies in all sectors;
- Facilitate and contribute to the coordination with Member States’ Missions, particularly in the fields of EU competences, notably trade and external assistance;
- Carry out Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) demarches as appropriate;
- Ensure the implementation of EU Development policy in line with the European Consensus on Development;
- Conduct bilateral relations in the areas of political, economic, trade and external assistance (financial and technical cooperation); in particular, contribute to the long term programming of aid and ensures the management of programmes and devolved projects within the framework of external aid management.
- Contribute to the implementation of the interim Economic Partnership Agreement with the Eastern and Southern Africa – Indian Ocean (ESA-IO) region;
- Contribute to the implementation of the regional maritime security strategy and to the anti-piracy Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) programmes in the region;
- Support Directorate General for Maritime Affairs (DG MARE) in the implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreements with Mauritius and Seychelles
- Ensure compliance with EU and international aid coordination policies - in particular the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", comprising a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) - and facilitates partnership agreements with EU financial institutions.
