High Representative Federica Mogherini and Dutch Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert co-chaired on Friday the informal meeting of Defence Ministers in Amsterdam. The event, organized  by the Netherlands EU presidency, was a fruitful occasion to take stock on the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), with an eye on the ongoing military missions and operations in in the Horn of Africa, the Central African Republic and the Sahel region. The situation in Libya and Afghanistan were also part of the discussion.

The European flag symbolises both the European Union and, more broadly, the identity and unity of Europe.

It features a circle of 12 gold stars on a blue background. They stand for the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe.

On 17 June, in Brussels, the foreign ministers of the 'Sahel G5' (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad) met HRVP Federica Mogherini and Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Christos Stylianidis. This was the first meeting in this format, although the EU has close bilateral relations with each of the Sahel countries.

On Wednesday 17 June, the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini will meet with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso.
