With the support and agreement of the European Commission, the EIB has signed portfolio guarantee agreements with three of Mauritania’s main commercial banks:

• €20 million for Banque Mauritanienne d’Investissement (BMI)
• €25 million for Banque pour le Commerce et l’Industrie (BCI)
• €20 million for Banque El Amana (BEA)

These agreements have already led to the signing of several credit lines in favor of Mauritanian businesses. They support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, foster job creation – with particular attention to young people and women – and improve services provided to the population.

By reducing risks for banks, EIB loans strengthen access to finance and encourage investment in key sectors such as healthcare, sustainable energy, agro-industry, and technological innovation.
