Construction of a Datacenter in Nouakchott, Mauritania
This project, carried out through a €15 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), includes the construction of the Data Center, its Tier III certification by the Uptime Institute, as well as the supervision and monitoring contract for the Data Center’s construction.
Inaugurated in May 2025, the Data Center enables Mauritania to strengthen its digital sovereignty, host national digital data locally, and improve compliance with security standards for digital data exchanges. It is an essential tool for digital transformation, contributing to the digitalization of the public sector and the Mauritanian economy.
The project is part of the West African Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (WARCIP), co-financed with the World Bank, which covers the construction of interurban fiber-optic backbone links in the northeast, south, and southeast of Mauritania, with international connection points near the borders with Senegal and Mali. This terrestrial network, inaugurated in December 2021, is also interconnected with the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine cable, which landed in Mauritania and constitutes a relevant complement to this EIB-financed project launched in 2010.
The Data Center receives Tier III certification, ensuring the quality, security, and reliability of uninterrupted access to information, thereby attracting, among others, top-level banks and private companies. It will be operated by International Mauritania Telecom (IMT/GIE), which brings together the State (through Mauripost) and the country’s three telecom operators.
This project is a flagship initiative of the European Union Global Gateway strategy in Mauritania within the digitalization sector.
