Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Malaysia?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Malaysia, starting in 1 April 2020, subject to availability of the budget.

The Political, Press and Information section is responsible for political analysis and reporting, relations in this field with the Malaysia interlocutors as well as coordination with EU Member States. It also covers press and information activities, including substantial cultural diplomacy. There is a growing cooperation with Malaysia in different sectors, and this includes political as well as press and information aspects. There is a considerable number of events either hosted by the EU Delegation, or in which we participate.

Main tasks:

  • Assist with the analysis of the political situation in Malaysia;
  • Monitoring of local media regarding, in particular, domestic and foreign policies including ASEAN relations, rule of law, human rights and governance;
  • Support the EU's cooperation with Malaysia regarding human rights;
  • Drafting of background notes on specific issues;
  • Help with outreach to relevant local stakeholders;
  • Provide assistance to incoming visits;
  • Support the organization of events related to the work of the Delegation;
  • Attending and reporting from meetings, academic lectures and think tanks, events.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor of international relations, political science, law or similar degree;
  • Relevant work experience must be less than one year and mostly internships;
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Malay an advantage;
  • Interest in and knowledge of Malaysian politics an advantage;
  • Ability to handle politically sensitive issues in a responsible manner;
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills;
  • Good IT skills.

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
