Celebrating a special day for both Malaysia and Europe

EU Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Castillo Fernandez co-hosted a Europe Day reception on 8 May in Kuala Lumpur. It was a celebration of European culture with 17 EU Member States present, along with EU and Malaysian partners and friends. The Guest of Honour was the Malaysian Minister for Youth & Sports the Honourable Mr Syed Saddiq, and present were the Ambassadors of Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

"9 May is a special day for both Malaysia and Europe," said Ambassador Castillo Ferndandez. "For Europe, we celebrate the start of a unique project of peace, prosperity and solidarity from the Schuman Declaration; for Malaysia, one year of a new peaceful political transition in its democratic process."

The Ambassador also acknowledged the holy month of Ramadan, and guests were treated to a special iftar to break their fast with.

Guests had a great time sampling European food and drinks from the country booths set up around the venue and enjoyed European music performed by an upcoming Malaysian band, a Malaysian pianist, and an Austrian jazz duo.
