Objectives

The Overall Objective (Impact) of this action is to support provision of the highest quality of care to patients through establishment and empowerment of continuous process/quality improvement programs in laboratory testing process and access and availability of oxygen therapy.

The Specifics Objectives of this action are to: 

  1. Improve the laboratory testing process at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) as a demonstration site by reducing overall cost of running laboratory services through targeted interventions that address sources of laboratory errors and improve the quality and efficiency of diagnostic testing

Improve access and availability of oxygen therapy through the routine assessment and repair of oxygen concentrators in all central and district government hospitals and a select few mission hospitals in order to increase useful Lifetime of Biomedical Equipment (Oxygen Concentrators) in Health Facilities through the introduction of a Structured Equipment Maintenance Program.

Results

Action has 3 expected outputs:

  1. Reduction in number of uncompleted tests
  2. Reduction in turnaround time of laboratory tests
  3. Increased Access and Availability of Oxygen Therapy in Primary and Secondary Health Facilities
  4. Increased Capacity of Biomedical Engineers and Technicians to Assess and Repair Oxygen Concentrators
  5. Increased Engagement and Commitment from Stakeholders to Maintain Biomedical Equipment

Implementation Status

The implementation of the action started on 1st August 2022 and will end 31st July 2026 and is on-going. EUR 114,618.10 first pre-financing paid in 2022.
