The European Union Delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU Member States in Libya take note of the announcement regarding the election of the new Presidency of the High Council of State, and of its acknowledgment by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

We congratulate the new Presidency and echo UNSMIL’s call for constructive engagement to foster internal consensus and enable the Council to carry out its essential role within the Libyan institutional framework, and in support of UN-facilitated efforts to overcome the political stalemate and advance toward inclusive national elections.

Reaffirming our strong backing to a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process facilitated by UNSMIL, we remain firmly committed to supporting the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace, unity, and accountable governance.
