Joint Statement by the European Union Delegation and the Diplomatic Missions of EU Member States to Libya

The European Union Delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU Member States to Libya join the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in condemning the recent breaches of the truce during the Eid holidays.

At this critical moment for Libya and its people, it is imperative that all parties respect their commitments to the ceasefire and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure from further harm.

The renewed violence underscores the urgent need to revive a credible and inclusive political process, facilitated by UNSMIL, aimed at resolving divisions and restoring legitimacy to national institutions through inclusive and credible national elections.

We therefore call on all Libyan stakeholders to avoid unilateral actions that could jeopardise progress and to pursue dialogue and compromise instead. We also reaffirm our commitment to accountability for all acts that threaten peace, civilian safety, harm the national institutions or the integrity of the political process.

The European Union and its Member States remain firmly committed to supporting Libya and UNSMIL in advancing a transparent, inclusive, and Libyan-led political path grounded in national ownership and consensus.
