Joint team of donors visit schools in Bong, Nimba and Margibi Counties built under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE)

From 29 to 30 May 2017, a joint team of donor representatives including the EU and UK Ambassadors to Liberia a representative from the Norwegian Embassy in Accra visited four schools in Bong, Nimba and Margibi Counties, built thanks to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a global fund financed by several donors. The European Commission contributes approximately 25% of all money donated to this fund. Together with individual EU Member States contributions (UK, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, France, Finland), European supports accounts for approximately 70% of all GPE money worldwide.

Liberia benefited from a USD 40 million grant which ended in October 2016. 41 new schools and 72 teacher housing units were built across the 15 counties of Liberia with donor support. To appreciate donors who contribute to the GPE, the Ministry of Education organized a joint visit to some of the new schools.
