The deadline for the submission of proposals is 12 June 2019 at 12.00 (noon), Brussels time.

The Call for Proposals for the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme has been launched this week for the year 2019.

The Scheme supports higher education cooperation between countries in Africa. The programme's objective is to improve the skills and competencies of students and staff through enhanced mobility between African universities.

The specific objectives of this Mobilty Scheme are to:

  • strengthen the modernisation and internationalisation of African higher education institutions, and promote the development of an African higher education and research space,
  • increase the employability of students,
  • improve the quality of higher education in Africa and its relevance to Africa's development vision.

The mobility of students and staff between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Africa is expected to help them acquire stronger knowledge and skills so that they may contribute to the improvement of the quality and relevance of teaching and learning through the exchange of practices. This will in turn increase HEIs’ capacity to forge partnerships with other institutions to undertake joint collaboration and research.

The programme brings together partners from different regions and it is expected it will help to harmonise and standardise higher education across regions and make a substantial contribution to regional integration.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants and partners are HEIs registered in Africa that provide courses at postgraduate level (master level and/or doctorate degree) of higher education leading to a qualification recognised by the competent authorities in their own country. Only HEIs accredited by relevant national authorities in Africa are eligible. Branches of HEIs from outside Africa are not eligible.

How should partnerships be composed and for how long?

The duration of the project must be 60 months.

The partnership must be constituted by a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 African HEIs as partners (including the applicant) and one technical partner from the EU.

The technical partner has to be a HEI from one of the EU Member States having been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.

The project will entail the organisation and implementation of student mobility in high quality master and doctoral programmes and academic/administrative staff mobility, as well as the provision of education/training and other services to foreign students and teaching/training and research assignments and other services to staff from the countries covered by the project. Mobility must take place only in one of the eligible countries covered by this Call for proposals.
