Zoukak: Theatre as a tool for the promotion of cultural diversity and exchange

10.03.2020

The project aims to provide easy access to cultural activities that foster skills growth and promote diversity, acceptance and social cohesion among the youth and the wider public in various regions of Lebanon.

  • Budget: € 110,897
  • Location: Lebanon
  • Date of project: 18 months January 2019 – June 2020
  • Implementing Partner: Zoukak Theatre Company Cultural Association

Founded in 2006, Zoukak is a cultural association and an artistic company dedicated to theatre as a practice of social and political involvement, with a belief in this art as a space for common reflection and in collectivism as a position against marginalising systems.

Zoukak is also a cultural laboratory for Lebanese theatre, creating theatre learning opportunities for youth of diverse backgrounds.

The European Union is supporting Zoukak to help make theatre more accessible to youth in Lebanon, especially those who are rarely given the opportunity to experience performances and artistic events. These young people generally have little to no access to culture and arts focused trainings.
