Country Entrepreneurship for Distributed Renewables Opportunities (CEDRO 5)

- Budget: € 7,870,626 (EU contribution: € 5,995,826)
- Location: Lebanon
- Date of project: November 2019 - November 2023
- Implementing Partner: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Lebanon’s energy sector is a significant burden to the country’s households, enterprises and to the national economy. Lebanon imports over 98% of primary energy exposing it to international oil price fluctuations and contributing to the large budget deficit of the country.
Moreover, Lebanon excessively relies on expensive and polluting fuel oil and diesel for self-generation. While the necessary reform of the power sector is yet to be implemented, renewable energy and energy efficiency have the potential to address these developmental challenges in a market-based manner while creating sustainable employment opportunities along its value chain.
Supporting this sector’s growth requires increased awareness within the private sector, as well as more innovation, capacity building, technology transfers and entrepreneurship. This fifth phase of CEDRO project will leverage the lessons learned and success stories from all previous phases, to introduce internationally viable solutions that have already been tested and proven by past UNDP projects.
