A Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) between the European Union and Singapore took place on 16th October in Brussels. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific in the European External Action Service (EEAS), and H.E. Ng Teck Hean, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore.

The meeting underlined the substantive nature of EU-Singapore relations, reflected in the European Parliament's approval of three key agreements: the EU-Singapore Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (ESPCA), the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA) and the EU-Singapore Investment Promotion Agreement (EUSIPA).

Under the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the EU and Singapore will deepen their bilateral relations and strengthen their sectorial cooperation and to tackle global challenges. The PCA will enter into force once it has been ratified by all EU Member States.

The discussion encompassed several domains of common interest and focused on broadening cooperation notably in areas of the circular economy, digital economy, cyber security, trade and investment. The regional dimension featured high in the agenda in the context of Singapore's role as ASEAN coordinator for relations with the EU till August 2021.
