The European Union is supporting the Lebanese Environment Forum and the Lebanon Eco Movement for two years with a grant of €995,000 to:
- Tackle the sources of marine pollution and its impact on the marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of those population living from the sea
- Raise the awareness of the Lebanese citizens on marine litter
- Contribute to change national policies and legislations
This grant will also finance smaller grants to community based organisations, start-ups and municipalities. The main purpose will be to address the causes and the impacts of marine litter.
This grant is part of a larger EU support to reduce pressures causing harm to the Lebanese coastal and marine environment, including marine biodiversity, as well as to support Marine Protected Areas and the creation of artificial reefs (https://bit.ly/2oAAN1T).
