The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini met today with Qatar Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani.
The High Representative discussed with the Minister the importance of deepening of bilateral cooperation with Qatar, including on regional issues and particularly on Syria.
HR/VP Mogherini updated Minister Al-Thani on the outcome of yesterday's Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg and they had an exchange on the meetings that took place in Lausanne and in London over the weekend.
Mogherini and Al-Thani agreed to cooperate in the dialogue with key actors in the region on the future of Syria and on the reconstruction work launched yesterday by the Council, while continuing to support the international efforts, led by the United Nations, to put an end to the conflict through a political process.
They also agreed on the importance of allowing humanitarian access to bring aid to the besieged areas and particularly to eastern Aleppo.
Mogherini and Al-Thani exchanged views also on the situation in Iraq, with the ongoing operation to liberate Mosul.
On Libya, they reiterated their support to the Presidency Council, that has to quickly address the needs of the Libyan people, and the need for international and regional partners to be united in support of the political process.
