The MPCC EUTMs Commanders Conference took place the 22nd March 2021. This conference is an annual event organized by the MPCC at the military strategic level and was chaired by the MPCC Director Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean. The conference took place virtually, in order to comply with COVID-19 measures in place.
Distinguished guests, including the Chairman of the EUMC, General Claudio Graziano and the Managing Director of the EEAS AFRICA desk, Ms Rita Laranjinha, participated as speakers. They expressed their appreciation to the respective Mission FCdrs’ efforts and achievements relating to their success in carrying out the missions’ mandates. They also gave their view on the EU CSDP Training Missions and the challenges they face in a challenging geopolitical environment. The credibility and the feasibility of the EU, the cooperation with all the relevant third party actors and the positive vision of the local population were highlighted as important elements for the success of the three EU training missions.
The MPCC DCOS Ops presented the current work strands concerning the development of the MPCC, highlighted the HRVP report on the MPCC Review and mentioned the upcoming execution phase of the Integrated Resolve 2020 (IR20) Exercise, planned to be conducted from 26 to 30 of April 2021. During the conference the three MFCdrs of EUTM Somalia, Mali and RCA had the opportunity to interact with the Dir MPCC, the D Dir/COS MPCC and the rest of the participants, to discuss interesting topics concerning their Area of Operation and receive guidance.
The MPCC Commanders’ Conference not only promotes the MPCC effort in planning and conducting the 3 non-executive military missions in Mali, Somalia and RCA but it highlights the efficiency of the EUTMs in delivering their non – executive mandates as well. All EUTMs have proven their credibility to the host Nations and the international partners in all of the respective Mission Areas.
