Statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini on the occasion of the United Nations Day

Often the most marginalized groups are invisible in society. The IT Academy aims at making the invisible visible and excluded included by offering disabled youth with IT training to ensure their inclusion in the Kyrgyz labour market.

Today Ambassador Eduard Auer presented his credentials to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and officially commenced his duties as the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic.


The projects aim to achieve urgently needed investment in sanitary landfills and the upgrade of the collection and transportation system in the cities and the neighbouring municipalities, resulting in an improved level of solid waste services. The action will finance critical solid waste investments for the City of Osh and four neighbouring municipalities, as well as solid waste investments for the City of Jalal-Abad and six neighbouring municipalities.

The project aims to improve solid waste management, contributing to a healthy environment and economic growth in Bishkek city.

The project aims to improve basic infrastructure and access to services for the population and the commercial sector alike and the climate resilience of household water services, which are vulnerable to climate change risks. It also aims to eliminate health hazards posed by unreliable water supply and unsanitary wastewater handling, and improve the financial and operational management of the participating water companies.

The project aims to support water and wastewater investment in Osh, Kara-suu, Cholpon-At and Kyzyl-Kiya.

On the European and World Day against the Death Penalty, the Council of Europe and the European Union (EU) reiterate their strong opposition to capital punishment in all circumstances and for all cases. The death penalty is an affront to human dignity. It constitutes cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and is contrary to the right to life. The death penalty has no established deterrent effect and it makes judicial errors irreversible.
