EU builds a strong and modern partnership with Central Asia

On 11 May 2019 the EU Village took place for the second time in Bishkek – a mass cultural event aiming to familiarize Kyrgyz people with culture, history and traditions of the EU member states. The event took place as part of Europe Day celebrations in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The Fifth Call for Proposals under the EU Funded Programme Central Asia Invest (CAI) – Boosting Small Business Competitiveness has been launched. Since 2007, CAI has been supporting the development of the private sector in Central Asia, with special emphasis on Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).


The Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) works in the region of Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implements the project with co-financing from the European Union and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
