The Integrated Rural Development Programme aims to improve the income opportunities of the rural population in southern Kyrgyzstan with the focus on Jalal-Abad region.
The programme aims to contribute to national strategies in fostering inclusive economic development of rural areas and economic clusters. It builds on and upscales already successfully-implemented measures taken in Jalal-Abad region.
Local producers and tourism service providers reduce costs through cooperation and improved productivity. Through better technologies and marketing, they increase the volume of sales, all resulting in higher income for the households they belong to. They use services and hence, contribute to increased income of the service providers. Additional workforce might be needed or is induced in adjacent sectors, such as transport, logistics, processing, catering, tour guides, restaurants and many more.
Better local services contribute to improved efficiency and therefore higher competitiveness of local producers and tourism service providers. Economic clusters in agricultural and tourism sectors develop, providing for more income-generating opportunities.
Improved coordination between the local civil society, local self-governments and private sector allows for tailored planning, realistic measures and more efficient use of the budget. The participative planning process ensures inclusion of vulnerable population groups. It also provides a better access to economic activities for young people and women, and after all, contributes to alleviating poverty.
