On behalf of the European Union, it is my pleasure to congratulate you on your election as President of the Kyrgyz Republic. I wish you success in your endeavours during your mandate.

I avail of this opportunity to reaffirm the EU's commitment to strengthening relations with your country. As a long-standing partner, the EU looks forward to seeing you engage with determination in the reforms needed for the country's social and economic development. We are confident that as President, you will continue to steer an ambitious internal agenda of modernisation and reform, to promote cooperation and dialogue both regionally and globally, with peace, stability and security as core priorities. This should include efforts to promote good governance, the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organised crime.

We are convinced that a stronger EU-Kyrgyz Republic cooperation is very important, especially in challenging times caused by the global pandemic. The EU stands ready to continue our dialogue in support of open government and vibrant civil society and media landscape, which we see as the key elements of sustainable development.

The initialling of the EU-Kyrgyz Republic Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in July 2019 bears testimony to our continued cooperation, based on our common values. I look forward to the signing of this agreement.

I have asked the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Ambassador Peter Burian, to represent the EU at your inauguration and to deliver this letter to you. I hope we will be able to meet in person when conditions allow.

Excellency, I wish you every success as President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
