EU Head of Delegation to the African Union, Birgitte Markussen, presented on 5th October her credentials to African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat as new EU Ambassador to the AU. Fourth EU Ambassador to the AU, Ms Markussen confirmed to Chairperson Faki the EU's strong commitment to further deepening and strengthening the partnership with the African Union.
Both Unions have a wide range of interests in common, be it in the field of economic and regional integration, migration, governance, sustainable development or peace and security. The European Union has spelled out five areas of cooperation in the Joint EEAS-Commission Communication of March 2020, endorsed by the EU Council on 30th June. On the basis of this strategy and building on solid cooperation in different areas, EU Ambassador Markussen together with her team , will continue to engage with AU leadership and organs in furthering the AU-EU partnership.
