I have the honour to deliver this general statement on behalf of the European Union and its Member States.
The Candidate Countries the Republic of North Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Serbia* and Albania*, the country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Georgia, align themselves with this statement. Allow me first to congratulate the 2 co-facilitators for their quality of work.
The European Union and its Member States support the modalities Resolution on the 'Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations'.
This anniversary is indeed a unique occasion to reaffirm our collective commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international order - with the United Nations at its core.
As we mentioned during our discussions, we are looking forward to commemorations that actively engage not only the full UN membership, but also a broad spectrum of civil society, youth and other relevant stakeholders in all of its activities throughout the year as mentioned in the resolution as well as in the transmission letter by the two co-facilitators to the PGA.
Close and active engagement of civil society and non-government stakeholders is essential to the EU in ensuring that our citizens are part of determining the 'Future we want, the UN we need" – the agreed theme of the commemorations.
The EU and its Member States will continue to remain actively engaged in the preparations of next year's milestone events, including notably in the drafting of the outcome document to be adopted in September 2020.
Thank you for your attention.
* The Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
